Good teaching is not a special measure

David Didau is a teacher, author, and education consultant. In 2011, he founded the influential blog The Learning Spy, widely recognized as one of the UK’s most important education blogs and a platform for rigorous debate about teaching, curriculum, accountability, and learning.

Alongside his writing, he works with schools on curriculum, assessment, literacy, and the teaching of English. A central theme of his work is the importance of making the implicit explicit — breaking down and codifying the knowledge that underpins fluent reading and writing so it can be taught deliberately. He is the author of several books, including The Secret of Literacy, Making Kids Cleverer, and Intelligent Accountability.
