João Marôco

João Marôco earned his PhD from the Washington State University and is a full professor at ISPA-IU, the Institute of Applied Psychology, where he teaches Statistical Analysis, Research Methods and Advanced Data Analysis Techniques. He is also a professor at Nord University, in Norway, where he conducts research on burnout and academic engagement in higher education.

He is also an education statistics consultant for the World Bank and the Teresa and Alexandre Soares dos Santos’ Iniciativa Educação. From 2014 to 2018, João Marôco served as a board member of IAVE, I.P., The Portuguese Institute for Education Assessment, where he coordinated large-scale sample-based assessment studies (PISA, TIMSS, PIRLS, ICILS) and a pilot project on e-Assessments.

His research interests include the evaluation and development of psychometric scales, regression applications, structural equation modeling, large-scale assessment and sampling, and classification in the biological, health, social and human sciences.

Are Portuguese students prepared to study, work and live in a digital world?

The results of International Computer and Information Literacy Study (ICILS) 2018 are made public during the same week in which the Web Summit 2019 is held in Lisbon. That is the first large-scale sample survey conducted in Portugal with the aim of assessing the digital literacy of students attending the 8th grade.
